High street icon Woolworths, which went bust during the fallout form the credit crunch, is plotting a return and it’s the best news we’ve heard all year

Woolworths is planning to bring its iconic red and white shops back to the high street next year.

The chain said it would be opening three stores late next year, and be retail only as the rights to the website are owned by Very.

The chain tweeted: “Here to save 2020! Woolworths is coming back to your high street, as a physical store!

“A couple of legal things to get sorted, but we’re full steam ahead at Woolworths HQ.”

It added: “Our trial stores will open in 2021.

“Very own the online Woolsworths, so we will be retail only.

“Before we launch we have a few legal contracts to sign, but we’re super excited!”
