Northamptonshire Police said they are trying to find the funeral’s organisers to slap them with the fine for their “total disrespect” of the coronavirus restrictions

Organisers of a travellers funeral attended by more than 150 mourners for a man known as ‘Gypsy Joe’ will be fined £10,000 for breaching lockdown rules.

Police were called to the large funeral procession, which was led by a horse-drawn carriage, making its way through the town centre on Monday.

The procession included a large number of cars which threatened to bring traffic to a standstill so officers were forced to put in road blocks to stop it travelling into certain areas and minimise disruption to the local community.

Northamptonshire Police are now trying to find the funeral’s organisers to slap them with the fine for their “total disrespect” of the coronavirus restrictions.

According to Northants Chronicle more than 150 travellers attended the funeral of Joe Rooney, 47, also known as ‘Gypsy Joe’ who died in a car crash last week.

The funeral for “Gypsy Joe” took place on Monday

Under the current coronavirus rules funerals can be attended by a maximum of 30 people.

All mourners must practise social distancing.
