There was outrage in the upper chamber, after the boss of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, listed ‘Kilishi production’ as a research breakthrough.

RMRDC list 'Kilishi production' as research breakthrough

While speaking on Tuesday, the DG of RMRDC, Professor Hussain Ibrahim, told the Senate committee on science and technology that kilishi, a locally spiced roasted meat, popular in the north, is part of the council’s research breakthrough in its 33 years existence.

According to Vanguard, the chairman of the Senate committee, Uche Ekwunife had asked the DG to tell the panel what specific raw material the agency had successfully developed in the areas of health, brewery, construction, science, and technology, or agriculture.

In his response, Professor Hussain Ibrahim said the council has discovered two varieties of Sorghum through a successful partnership with the institute of agriculture.

“In our 30 years of research activities, we are still the largest research Institute. But to be candid with you, we are making progress.

“For now, we have developed technology to optimise Kilishi production. Research activities take time,” he stated.

His submission led to prolonged laughter from the audience but drew the anger of the lawmakers.

A member of the panel, Senator Clifford Ordia said,

“is this the success story that you are going to tell us after 33 years?“
